Advocating for the Industry and its Consumers.
Government Relations
The SCPA is the South Carolina pawn industry’s voice at the state level for legislative and regulatory issues affecting how pawnbrokers operate in the state and is dedicated to addressing these issues.
The Association maintains an active and visible presence at the Statehouse in Columbia when the General Assembly is in session (January through June), and we maintain our relationships with decision-makers when the legislature isn’t in session (July through December).
Grassroots
The SCPA’s interaction with the General Assembly and regulatory agencies like the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs is important, but even more important is the work done through the pawn industry’s grassroots activism. The SCPA keeps its members informed of issues, challenges, and needs in the state’s pawn industry and seeks to engage them in a more active role to promote the industry as a professional and vital part of the state’s small business economy.
SCPActivate
From time-to-time, the SCPA will contact members and urge them to help shape the outcome of legislation and regulation by directly providing feedback directly to their General Assembly members or agency regulators. SCPA members receive updates on initiatives and priorities via email and when time-sensitive issues mean that the SCPA membership needs to activate (SCPActivate).
