(14 January 2015 – Columbia, SC) The executive committee of the South Carolina Pawnbrokers’ Association today announced the passing of its president Janis Feazelle at the age of 59 following a brief illness.
Owner and operator of First Lugoff Pawn Shop, Feazelle was a member of Harvest Baptist Church and was a mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister.
Jim Starnes of Greenville, a past president of the Pawnbrokers’ Association and a friend of Janis’ for decades said, “Janis loved the pawn industry because she cared about people. When they needed a hand, she was there. Her customers weren’t just customers. They were friends and neighbors, and she felt it was her mission to be there for them.”
Another longtime friend and pawnbroker, Jay Friedman of Columbia added, “We’re all having trouble coming to grips with this. Janis led the Association for so many years and worked with a tremendous amount of dedication to make sure the pawn industry in South Carolina continues to be there for the people it serves. We will not let her work be forgotten or go by the wayside. We will continue it in her memory and in her honor.”
Friedman said that the Association’s executive committee will discuss next week their plans moving forward but that everyone needed to take time to grieve the unexpected loss of “such a dear friend.”
Surviving are her husband, Ronnie Feazelle; daughters, Dana Proffitt (Chris), Lisa McCaul; son, Vincent “Vince” Woodard; sister, Sheila Parnell; brothers, Danny Burkett (Donna), Mark Burkett (Debbie); and grandchildren, Juniper Proffitt, Caleb Woodard, and Nicholas Floyd. She was predeceased by siblings, Debra Kacho and Bruce Burkett.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. this coming Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Harvest Baptist Church in Lugoff with the funeral service immediately following. The burial afterward will be private.
